# **HMRC Brexit update**

HMRC has recently released a letter, to update businesses on Brexit and to help with preparations for all Brexit scenarios.

**The letter asks these businesses to take three actions now:**

1. Register for a UK Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number 
   
   As we mentioned in our ['What is an EORI number' ](https://t.sidekickopen72.com/s1t/c/5/f18dQhb0S7lM8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJN7t5X-FfhMynW4WJ21W8q5vmxW56dyTd2ntcFW102?t=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.crossflight.com%2Fblog%2Fhelp-info%2Fnews%2Fwhat-is-an-eori-number&si=7000000001404740&pi=755a19a9-d626-4084-888a-3164106f2a19)blog post, an EORI number is something we strongly advise all businesses to obtain, sooner rather than later.
2. Decide whether they will use a customs agent to make import and/or export declarations or will make the declarations themselves using specialist software
3. Contact the organisation that moves their goods (for example, a haulage firm) to find out if they will need to supply additional information to complete safety and security declarations
